sailing from Bahamas to New york

Looking for advise, we will be leaving Bahamas (west end) around early June, want to go to West Heaven in CT for the Hurricane season.
our boat is a Tartan 43, with 64 mast and 6ft draft. thinking to do outside and some when really possible inside the intracostal.
where will be the best route?
thank you

Re: sailing from Bahamas to New york

If your purpose is to go to West Haven, go offshore. One shot, one week, one thousand miles.

If you want to go sightseeing, pick the section of the ICW where you want to sightsee. Bear in mind you'll be driving a bus (motoring) at 5 knots and waiting for bridge openings and either paying for marinas or looking for anchorages as well as needing to check on the inlets, some of which can be dangerous depending on tide and weather.

Of course if you're going solo...the ICW and being able to tie up every night has advantages, no debate there.

I'll bet the Miami-Dade library system HAS some ICW cruising guides, so you can check them out and get all the details, on paper, to go over at leisure.
