Couple Sailing in Fort Lauderdale

Hey all,

My wife and I just moved to Fort Lauderdale from Texas. We're a young-ish couple in our 30s that have fallen in love with sailing, but looking to get more experience now that we're coastal.

We took a handful of ASA classes last summer, but outside of that do not have any other sailing experience. We're hoping to find a regular group to just do some coastal cruising or even some beer race type events to get more time on the water!

Welcome to Sailnet! I lived in Ft Lauderdale for a while but kept my boat in the Keys, so I didn’t get to know the sailing scene there very well, but I think there are several sailing meet up groups that get together regularly. Try checking out the events calendar in the Waterfront Times.....

Re: Couple Sailing in Fort Lauderdale

Thanks Andy! We'll look into that!

We stopped by a local ASA school here today, just to get their recommendations for the area. They also said most of the day sailing happens around Biscayne Bay, so we're looking for some clubs and groups down in that area.

You could also check out Southwinds Magazine. Sorry I can't post the link from this computer. Not as area specific as what Andy posted but still will have helpful info as far as regatta's and other events go. The Bone Island Regatta might be worth checking out. Venice to Key West,
May 13th - 16th 2020. Might see if you could get on as crew.

Thanks Contrarian! Any ideas on who to contact about something like that? We’ve only done ASA classes, so never reached out to crew before.

Load the ASA GoSailing app (really more of a web site than an app) on your device. I have taken at least one cruise every year for the last four with crew that I met through GoSailing.

EDIT: Oh Yeah - Welcome to SailNut!

Thanks eherlihy for the welcome! We’ve got the app loaded up and keeping an eye on local stuff.

Also worth noting, if anyone down here needs an extra set of hands (albeit unskilled hands!) for boat washing or just general projects let us know!

...will work just to be around sailboats and water! (and maybe learn a thing or two while we’re at it!)
