Jeanneau Poker 28ft - Does it have a Bilge?

Hi everyone.

I got my self a sailboat finally as i have been dreaming about it for as long as i can remember. Its a 28ft Poker Jeanneau.

The sailing part of the boat is fine, engine, rigging and so on, but the interior, exterior paint and overall look in general does need some love. So i started tearing the interior out, peeling away old fiberglass and rotten bulkheads.

One thing i can't understand is, does this boat have a Bilge? I opened up the floor boards and it seems there is only a cabin sole above the keel. I can see the bolts but i don't see and opening in there which goes down into the keep a bit for the water. Is this how the boat is in general?

I can't find any pictures of the internals on the web for this boat so i am doing the restoration and figuring it out as i go but it seems the boat was badly painted in the past, hasn't been looked after although the hull is solid.

Any help would really be appreciated.

The drawings in the link below do not suggest any sort of sump.. and since you're not seeing one I'd say it's pretty clear the Poker doesn't have one. Not unusual in boats with bolt-on fin keels.

We do have a true sump that extends into a keel cutout, that is less common.

Sounds like you've gotten yourself into a bit of project....

A lot of flat bottom Boats don't have a bilge so to speak, my 30 footer has 31/2" and that's all. Its a bit of a challenge to keep it dry, for instance my PO drained the ice box directly into the bilge so I redirected to the fresh water faucet supply with a 3 way valve.
