I've been to a lot of places in Mexico but do not know much about the Merida area, so it's hard to say how to go about it.
Are you an American living down there?
Do you speak Spanish?
Is there a Marina down there?
Are there Americans living on boats down there?
Is there any Hobbie Cats or other beachable boats there?

I think it would be harder to learn to sail in Mexico than any beach town in the US. But if there is a marina with Americans in it or a yacht club or a beachable boat somewhere, go talk to the owners and see if you can come up with a way to learn.

I am interested in hearing what life is like living in Progreso.

Re: Want to learn to sail in Progreso Mexico

I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Royce's Sailing Illustrated and buy a small boat (under 16 feet) and go sail it.
Sailing ain't rocket science. It's about 60% common sense, 30% experience 5% education and 5% input from other sources. It's mostly about having fun and for some, the most fun many of us have had sailing was learning by doing.
Arcb likes this.

"Any idiot can make a boat go; it takes a sailor to stop one." Spike Africa aboard the schooner Wanderer in Sausalito, Ca. 1964.
“Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” ― Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
