Best Outboard for a 1991 MacgregorS

I am considering purchase of a 1991 MacgregorS. The outboard is a 1991 8HP Johnson. I am thinking of upgrading the size of the motor. Any suggestions on preferred size of motor?

Agreed. Unless there's some other reason you have to consider it, that's more than adequate for that boat and displacement. Should easily push at hull speed with no effort, and going bigger would just be adding unnecessary weight. Even if you're fighting 20 knot headwinds, that 8 should move you fine.

A friend of mine has a 6hp on his and it moves the 26s around just fine. I'd be more concerned about weight and fuel consumption. I have a little 4hp on my Mac22 and it'll scoot my boat around just fine. Weight's not much different between a 26s and a Mac22
