Pettit Black Widow Video Review

I am often asked for my opinion of Pettit Black Widow anti fouling paint. Hadn't had much experience with it until this spring/summer. Based on what I found yesterday, I can't say I'd recommend it.

Not hard to clean (you know, except that it took a pass with an abrasive pad to uncover the barnacles, then a 12" metal scraper to remove them and then another pass with the pad to pick up remaining slime) but the point is, we do not see barnacles a lot here and never on brand new paint. Until now that is.

Does not mean anything if you do not know how long since it was painted, when it was last cleaned and how it was painted. we are finding that a burnished surface on Black Widow is a must do. otherwise it is just another bottom paint.

First cleaning on a 3-month old bottom. I believe it was sprayed on. This kind of barnacle growth is unprecedented on new paint (any new paint) in the Bay Area in my 24 year experience.

That's because Don0190 isn't there.

Not really a good choice for saltwater anyway, is it even recommended for it?

Pettit says it is good in all waters. Being used a lot in So Cal because the Proline 1088 is not available here anymore

Re: Pettit Black Widow Video Review

I'd still like to see a side by side comparison same boat, same waters against its competition (VC17m) which is a freshwater bottom paint (good for any water, but practically just good for fresh/brackish).

VC17 is completely unsuitable for use in saltwater.
