Rebedding Atkins & Hoyle Deck Hatch

I removed the foredeck hatch today from my Mirage 24. It looks like the mfg. may have used two parallel sticky tape gaskets under the frame and sealant around screws.

Is 3m 4000 enough of a gasket between the frame and deck or should I make a new gasket and also use 4000? I used 4000 under deadlight frames last year.

If I make a new gasket, I am considering automotive rubber and cellulose gasket material suitable for water pumps and thermostats.

I do not see a replacement gasket available for use under the frame on the A&H website. They do however offer liquid neoprene gasket sealant.
I guess butyl tape would also be an option.

Advice appreciated.

The sticky tape that you mentioned is probably butyl tape. It makes an excellent bedding compound for something like a hatch.

If you 're really interested in the subject and want to do it right this should give you a good understanding of detailing and tightening for max life and the product is as good as it gets:

Not butyl tape. More like double sided foam tape.

Thanks for reminding me about the effectiveness of butyl Jeff_H and flyingriki.

I will use butyl tape.

I asked my shipyard guys before bedding the hatch with butyl as planned. They suggested that sealants are much better quality today than yesteryear. Makes sense. I bedded the hatch with DOW 795. The same stuff I used for the deadlights last season.
