Thoughts on Morgan West Indies models

I am looking at the layout and specs of the Heritage (Morgan design) 38.

Please comment on the pros and cons and tell me how you are acquainted with them please.

Thank you,

Garth

Re: Thoughts on Morgan West Indies models

they are a lot like the Morgan OI 41 ...heavy, narrow, built like a tank. Some had perkins diesels, I have seen a couple with Nanni, but did not know if that was a repower or option. I liveaboard one for a bit, when I was younger and found it to be huge compared to a small cheoy lee, I had before..

They are "roomy" for their design time ('70's) but will feel cramped and close as compared to a similar size boat of today.

It all depends on what you are looking for in a boat. They are great for liveaboard and have decent woodwork and build. By now it will either have been refit, or will be due for a refit. Rigging for sure, should be inspected.

Built like a tank? I think we have different tank standards. In no way would I call a 38 ft CC cruising boat weighing in at 17000 lbs a tank.

The WI 38 has the same hull as the WI 36 with a different deck. You can find some full size scans of original drawings at westindies36.com

If you remove ballast from the equation, the structure of the Hunter is actually a couple of thousand pounds heavier structure.
