Those seem to make all the sense in the world, but I had one of them fail too. Also the Whale version of it. One of the two actually has the wires exit beneath the level of the water that activates the switch, so the water tight seal is being tested 24/7. I assume that's what failed. In any event, it stopped working.

This is the only switch I've heard will work for the life of one's boat. At the price, one can certainly afford to replace a lot of crappy switches. I haven't made the move yet.

I have an Ultra on my Shurflo 2000, so easy to set up and so far so good.
