I have a Cape Dory 25d at ST. John's river in Jacksonville. I would like to move the boat closer to the Ocean. My first option would be St. Augustine. Another would be Fernandina. I would like some advice in regards of easier place to sail, easier inlet etc.
Thanks
Ben

I wanted to contact you individually but the rules are that I need 15 posts before I can do that. In the meantime is anybody interested on being the skipper in my boat and show me the local St. Augustine waters including the inlet? Do you know anybody who would be willing to do this ? I would be willing to compensate for this.
Thanks
If somebody is interested in calling me to discuss the St Augustine inlet please do so . My cell is 904-200 8209

Ben, St Aug is really a fun town, lots to do. (Although, perhaps not as much sailing as we'd wish) Inlet's not bad if you follow the marks. If you're going to be docking at a marina, advise you to time it for slack tide - unless you're intending to provide the day's docking drama entertainment for the rest of us ;). The current can rip through here at 3 or 4 knots at maximum.

Dino, we're at the city marina also, we probably know each other but just don't know it...

Long-term slips are $15/ft/month for liveaboards. I *think* moorings are around $300/month. (We'll find out, because we'll probably move out to a mooring come spring.)

As there are so many of us here in St. Aug - how about happy hour in the near future?

Mill Top Tavern is walking distance for just about everyone (not those at Camachee)...Let us hear your thoughts.

Great idea! How about this Sunday at 5-ish ... to start the work week off right?

Sure, let's see how many others plan to attend. We'll be there in any case.

St. Augustine Anchorage and the get together

Hi everyone. Thanks Beersmith for referring me to this thread. I just made a lengthy post on cruisers forum.com about anchoring in st. augustine and the city marina, etc... and Beersmith said to check out this thread here on sailnet.

Here's a link to the post about anchoring and the city marina.

I would be happy to get together this weekend with other sailors and cruisers! I've never been to this place, so Ill have to look it up and find out where it is.

Looking forward to it :)
