We are looking at alternatives to the two manual Ruritan heads we currently have.
I would like to hear from people that have Lecra San or similar units and hear what you like and don't like about them.

Currently we sail mostly in the Chesapeake Bay areas. Are there any NDZ's there that don't allow them? Do you need a backup holding tank for those situations?

Do they draw a great deal of power? We have solar and wind generators....will it operate on that or must the engine be on as well?

Do they hold up well. Is there much maintenance? What else do I need to consider? Thanks for responses!

LectraScans process black water, removing the bacteria to the extent it surpasses all municipal sewage treatment, but it does not pump, and is not a head.
To work properly it requires salt water, and we found in someplaces on the Bay there is not enough salt in the raw water so a salt injection tank is needed, easy to add, but a bit of a pain to keep full.
The unit draws approx 15 amps for about 2 minutes for each cycle. Each cycle should occur each time you flush.
The unit is sealed and not maint intensive, with biggest job for winterization. Recommend once a year flush through some Muriatic Acid or Raritan's CH product to remove scaling.
We have a Diverter at the Electroscan outlet so we can divert the output to a holding tank when we are in a NDZ (like the Keys).
I recommend you pull up the owners manual and installation manual from the Raritan website, it will provide a lot of info for you.

you might look at the hold n treat system, as the several NDZ (HH, non tidal creeks, and MANY marinas) on the bay mean just that NO DISCHARGE ZONE, of any kind...treated or not...the idiots at the EPA have failed to understand that the treatment it does is to a far greater degree than shoreside...but that was not your question.

IF it is installed correctly, maintained and winterized, there is no down side. It works as advertised and does it to a degree that shore side treatment could only dream of.

As BV says, you will need the salt reservoir to use it effectively on the bay, as most is not salty enough to work properly.

There are distance limitations as to how far the unit can be from the throne.
