Two women lost at sea for five months on small sailboat rescued
The Globe and Mail
A planned voyage from Hawaii to Tahiti aboard a small sailboat didn't start off well for two Honolulu women. One of their cellphones washed overboard and sank into the deep blue water on their first day at sea. From there, things got worse. Much worse.

Hey, bon appetit fella! When you come up for air, check out the analysis, Navy onboard news conference via phone, etc.

thanks to Slow Boat Sailing.

One unanswered question: Why are these gals traveling with a Geiger counter yet no EPIRB? Appel mentions in the news conference wanting to be able to measure effects of the Fukashima reactor disaster, yet claims to have been originally headed in very nearly the opposite direction from Hawai'i, south to Tahiti--

I'm not going name call. I'm a new member as of this week. If sailnet moderators don't care to challenge this kind of hate speech (and that is what it is when you disparage people you don't know for their presumed sexual orientation) I'm not going to stick around.

And by the way I'd say this in person too.

"If anything is going to happen it will happen out there.." We have cellphones we can sail anyplace in the planet with google earth and google maps.

Does the sun still come up on the East and set on the West? I think the moon does the same. Face East and stick your head to the left and you are pointing where? Basic Navigation..

Something about the story does not jibe. It will be found out sooner or later. It smells pretty bad.

"Welcome to SailNet" just seems odd in the middle of this. Welcome anyway. Please don't consider these posts representative of our members. For future reference, there is a Report Post icon on each post. Feel free to use it as the moderators cannot read every single message and we rely on members to let us know when something is beyond the pale.

Oh you are just nit picking.
With two years of planning anyone can forget to include an EPIRB.
Or forget to check a weather forecast before leaving Hawaii and run into a "Force 11" storm the first night out.

But, how anyone would head out into the Ocean without knowing even some rudimentary Tiger Shark language is beyond me.

Brace yourself; this site is chock-full of ugly, angry, old men who pass judgement on things of which they have little knowledge and possessing no particular desire to learn. There are sailing forums that are much better. That is where you will find me. But you won't find me here again. Too many threads like this one. Too many posters like Bilgemaster. Too many good posters jumping ship.

Yes, I'm amazed any forum on objective topics - not devoted to reactionary rants like 4chan - would let that sort of post stand.

Even Reddit's been trying to clean its act up (a bit).

Hopefully they take them to Guam where they can lick their wounds and hang out with the Russian idiot while preparing to set off to live the dream.
