Coping on land after surviving at sea
Chicago Tribune
The couple, both avid sailors, had decided to take a break from pleasure sailing in Sharp's 36-foot sailboat, Mayaluga, to take a job delivering a 44-foot yacht, Hazana, from Tahiti to San Diego. But Ashcraft's dream of a happy future with Richard was ...

Was this the basis of the movie “Adrift”. My wife watched it on her recent flight to Florida in spite of promising to not watch any more sailing disaster porn. It’s taking me days to talk her down.

It was likely republished since the movie Adrift came out recently (note the 2018 copyright and inclusion with Sept 15, 2018 news).

Good cautionary tale on how knowing how to use old methods of navigation can be a lifesaver when electronics go dead.

I was so stoked to see it on the in flight app screaning a week ago. I had been wanting to watch it, and I had a 6 hour flight to kill time on!
I thought it was a pretty cool movie.

Re: Coping on land after surviving at sea - Chicago Tribune

The book was titled "Red Sky in Mourning", came out a decade or so after the event. I am meaning to read it. I remember it making the news back when she, badly malnourished, finally made it to Hilo 40 days after jury-rigging what she could and latitude-sailing/drifting by sextant. I heard a radio interview Tami recently, she couldn't even read for six years due to her head injury. And no PTSD or post-concussion treatment, this was 25 years ago. She grieved after making it to shore, as she couldn't afford to do it while trying to survive at sea.

Good on her!!! A quiet hero.
