Replace Cowls on PSC 34

Good morning folks
Replacing cowls on my 1990 PSC34 is high on my spring to-do list. Does anyone have experience doing this? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Replace Cowls on PSC 34

The rubber (or plastic ?) dorade cowls on my boat had apparently been painted repeatedly and looked bad, so I stripped off the old paint with paint stripper and repainted them with white spray paint from a can, and they look new. After 3 years, they still look good, but, if they get bad again, it's an easy winter task to strip them and re-paint them.

Re: Replace Cowls on PSC 34

On the advice of Will Heyer at Vetus, I scrubbed my Vetus PVC crowls with soap, water, and bleach to get the crud off, wiped them with acetone and clean cloths to remove any surface plasticizer that would interfere with the paint, masked first the inside then the outside, and painted them red on the inside an white on the outside with Krylon Fusion paint. When it needed to be done again after a couple of years, the old Krylon came off with acetone.

Re: Replace Cowls on PSC 34

I too have old a worn cowls. I have the vetus brand. I measured and the measurements don't match the current design. Are you having the same problem?

P.S. I can't budge the rings that would release the vents from the base. I have managed to compress the vent enough to get it off the base.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Re: Replace Cowls on PSC 34

I got a couple of new cowls from Vetus last year. They came with plastic rings that didn't fit the base well. So I removed the cowls from the rings and used the old rings. That worked well enough as the new cowls were the same size as the old ones. But it didn't take long for the new cowls to start turning gray.
