Hull Identification Number

Where is the HIN typically located on a PSC 37?

Re: Hull Identification Number

Upper Starboard transom and one hidden location (check with mfg.) as per USCG requirements.

I have a 1965 Alberg 35 and it doesn't have a HIN. I looked all over when I purchased the boat 3 years ago and in the documents. No number. Asked around among other A35 folks and found it's common.

HIN's were not required by USCG until 1971. To this day there are still manufacturers who can't get these simple rules straight. For more info see What is a HIN ?

HIN's didn't become mandatory until, I think, 1972. I'm guessing few, if any boats had them in 1965.

I used to have a 1971 Egg Harbor and I'm pretty sure it didn't have one, that's why I think it started in 1972.

Edit....ok, I just looked at your "What is a HIN", and it said HIN's were required after Nov. 1972.

Ooops, Sorry you are correct, 1972. It's been a long time since I wrote that article

Re: Hull Identification Number

My 1988 Pacific Seacraft 37 does not have one. How big are these numbers supposed to be? Do they need to be etched into the fiberglass or a plaque glued on?

Re: Hull Identification Number

It should be there. The numbers are not large, maybe 3" from end to end. Usually etched into the fiberglass and it's not unusual to really have to look hard to find them, in other words, they don't jump out at you.
