Looking for fuel stats on a Westerbeke 27HP

All,

Looking for fuel stats for a PSC 34 with the Westerbeke 27 HP motor. I'm trying to put together a fuel budget for a ditch trip and looking for burn rates at various RPMs/Speeds.

If anyone has worked that out I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks,

Shrimp

It's a different engine, but from an earlier thread here I wrote...

"...in late January and early February on the way south to the Bahamas via the ICW we filled up at NW Creek Marina before we left. Call it 20 miles from the marina whch is near New Bern, NC to Cedar Creek (SM 187.5) and 394 miles to Savannah Bend Marine (SM 582.3) where we refueled taking on 43.1 gal in the tank and the three jugs we carry on deck. That is 414.8 statute miles on 43.1 gal or 9.6 statute miles per gallon or 8.5 nautical miles per gallon. We usually run 2500 rpm and most of that was in flat water with little wind. The bottom and prop were both clean. We made only a few side trips to anchor and sailed very very little."

We have a Yanmar 3HM35F and a two blade propeller.

Re: Looking for fuel stats on a Westerbeke 27HP

Your motor has about 5 hp more than mine, but the numbers are probably close. From what you stated, I should burn 115 - 150 gals for the trip from Norfolk to Miami.

At $2.50/gal that's about $285 to $350 total which doesn't seem too bad for such a long trip.

Thanks,

Re: Looking for fuel stats on a Westerbeke 27HP

I too have found my 3HM35F to be fuel efficient. The motor is a 30 hp rated motor. I would expect that if you try to push your boat at hull speed with a 27 HP your fuel consumption might be more. Much of your calculations will also have to consider how much you put aboard. The 13500 displacement of a PSC 34 includes the boat with 1/2 full tanks and half stores for a crew of 4.

Indecision may or may not be my problem.
