Mystery piece of wood

I have a small piece of wood just behing my wheel pedestal with a notch in the middle. Aside from being a good toe stubber does anyone know what is it for?

Re: Mystery piece of wood

I do like the idea of that piece of wood being good to secure a grate. That is one annoyance on my PS34 I'd like to address -- the cutouts for the two cockpit drains make standing behind the wheel in bare feet a bit difficult. A grate would cover them up and provide better footing.

Possibly a bracket for storing a cockpit table that was attached to your pedestal? Just a guess.

I don't have anything like that on my PSC34. But it looks like yours has a few other modifications near the pedestal as well. The carriage bolts and the wire going through the deck aren't standard issue either, so far as I know.

If it were for a grate (which I agree would be a nice addition), I don't imagine that one would need something like that to hold it in place. I'd want something that would secure it to the deck so when the cockpit is full of water it wouldn't tend to float up, but why just to hold it from going forward?

That was my first guess but it's on the wrong side of the pedestal.
