what is a typical broker commission?

Anyone out there ever sell their boat through a yacht brokerage? I'm wondering what % of the selling price is typical for broker commissions.

Ten percent is almost universal.

Keep in mind that this will be split, if there is a listing broker and a selling broker. Each of those individuals have to share their piece with the office they work for to pay overhead. IOW, what the broker themselves actually receives as a commission, is typically much lower.

Are you buying or selling? I have other thoughts depending on what side of the deal you're on and the dollars involved.

Is the brokerage Knot 10 still in business? Yep, web site says 7%. I have no affiliation with them. I did visit their office once.

Ten percent has been my experience. But it's always possible to try and negotiate.

Yep, negotiate. Remember the seller added the 10% commission to his bottom line amount he was willing to accept for the boat. So offer him what you think his bottom line is minus the commission and offer to pay the commission your self. Hint you pay the commission either way. You can save yourself a few thousand when buying the boat this way and more when the tax man comes a knocking since the commission is not in the purchase price. I've done this with real estate.

The OP is selling, not buying.
