I have spent the weekend provisioning for an 8 day sail I have coming up in a smalll sailing boat.
The boat I am using is very small and weight sensitive by almost any cruising standard. I have decided to bring the boat to %80 of her max load to allow for some reserve bouyancy and better perfomance.
After my own weiight, I am left with about 87 pounnds to work with.
Figure my safety and nav gear accounts for about 15 pounds. This allows for spare paddles, spare sail, manual bilge pump, PLB, VHF, SPOT, solar battery pack, nav lights and dry suit.
Camping gear. I will be sleeping ashore. About 15 pounds including; hammock tent, down sleeping bag, thermarest, change of clothes and under garments.
Saltwater, but water resupply is every couple of days. So I will carry 13 liters of water, which leaves 3 liters per day for drinking plus 1 liter per day of food rehydration. I will also throw in a pound and a half for my Trangia mini alcohol cookset and stove fuel. 40.5 pounds total. This leaves 5 liters of water in reserve.
This leaves me about 26.5 pounds for food.
I figure 2 pounds of dry food per day is adequate. This will be; coffee and oatmeal for breakfast. Powdered mashed potatoes with cheese for lunch, pasta for dinner plus enough powdered gatorade for 2 liters per day. Figure this comes to 16 pounds.
Now I am left with about 10.5 pounds of reserve for luxury foods. This will include a mini can per day of v-8, raisins, peanuts, cliffs whey protein bars and a box of cookies.
Not much veggies, I admit but it's only 8 days.
Sound about right? What would you do
