Re: Bob Perry's Carbon Cutters

The official word as of ten minutes ago is that the first carbon cutter will be launched tomorrow at 2pm. I'll get to the yard around 5am just to be sure I don't miss it.

Please visit my blog. It's fun to read.

Nope, not quite ready for that yet. We will have a couple of drones on standby.

Check Bob's Facebook page. Someone there posted drone video of the launching.

Re: Bob Perry's Carbon Cutters

I am still alive!
Thursday was draining. I had planned to take my wife to dinner in La Conner after the launch on the way home. But I got in the car and said, "I want to go home."
All went well but the boat did not float on it's lines. It's bow high. Of course the focsle was empty and we had another anchor and chain rode to install. Consider this boat really has no lazarette, it's all machinery space.
This means that ALL the gear for long passages has top be stowed in the focsle. It's a big focsle and will get 14 milk carton crates full of who knows what, extra lines and rode, an inflatable, an outboard motor, two Watt Seas, scuba gear plus all the other ****e you need to go long range cruising. None of this was aboard. We have now added trim ballast to replicate this estimated gear weight and the boat is nw on it's lines. I'll go up tomorrow and hopefully the boat is docked so I can get a photo or two. We anticipate sailing on Thursday.

I'll try and get some better shots of the boat in the water tomorrow. The launch area arrangement did not allow me to get any good profile shots.
Do you recognize the big blue powerboat behind me and Ruby?

Re: Bob Perry's Carbon Cutters

We are now trimmed. Mast rake is dead on 2 degs by Jim's eye. We are within an RCH of designed displ. So close it's hard to believe. Sails will go on tomorrow and we will remove some trim ballast. Removed some today and more will come out as the gear is added to the focsle.

Re: Steel vs Fiberglass

Damn Bob, that is beautiful. To me a sheer line can only be fully appreciated when the boat is in the water and that is pure eye candy!

Re: Steel vs Fiberglass

I've greatly enjoyed following along with the build, and the boat is an engineering marvel, beautifully made with careful thought. I wish I could join the chorus of voices of appreciation of her lines, but I can't. I don't know why; different boats for different strokes, I suppose, but I don't find the proportions appealing. I'm not the buyer, though, so my point is certainly moot!
