I wasn’t sure whether to post this music clip under racing videos or music videos.
The boat is Acrospire IV, designed and built by Charles Peel and launched in 1929 in Melbourne Australia. She has an overall length of 54ft and a waterline length of 36ft. The "old girl" has been beautifully restored by her current owner, Gary Martin, Past Commodore of Fremantle Sailing Club, Western Australia.
The race is the 2012 Fremantle Harbour Classic, held each year when the harbour is closed to commercial traffic for the afternoon. A large crowd always enjoys the sailing, with close-up viewing from the harbour wharf.
Acrospire IV won the Fremantle Harbour Classic yacht race on the 11th November 2012 and the event was captured in this video. I was honoured to be part of the crew for the race.
The song "The Spell of Acrospire IV" is performed by my wife, Jane Laws. Jane wrote the song after sailing aboard Acrospire IV during the 2010 Cockburn Sound Regatta.
