Freeman hatch for SC31 cockpit?
If you want to get anything done in the engine "room" of a Southern Cross 31 you have to be a contortionist. It's torture. Installing a hatch in the cockpit deck might help a lot. Some very old posts mention in passing a "Freeman 2400 oval hatch" for this purpose. Do you have any additional information? The Freeman 2431-0002 "12x18", or their 2433-0002 "15x24" model? The larger model seems too big - it might interfere with the exhaust elbow and/or muffler. True?
Re: Freeman hatch for SC31 cockpit?
I installed a Freeman 12"x18" Oval Lift-Out Hatch, model 2431-0002. The job went well, although staying clear of the exhaust system was a bit tricky. Freeman's response to a few email questions was prompt and helpful. One of these questions concerned the country of origin, and the answer is Made in the USA! I can now easily get one hand (but not two) on the stuffing box - a big improvement.
