Tartan 34C rig dimensions

I am considering purchasing a 1976 Tartan 34C, hull 424. It appears to the long boom version of the rig but I read that Tartan went to a higher aspect, shorter boom rig around hull 200.

The short-boom version has the traveler forward in the cockpit and the long-boom version it is aft.

Did the boat I am considering get remasted from an older Tartan? Or did Tartan offer various rig options throughout the production run?

See TARTAN 34 C sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com. At the bottom of that page note the comment:

Quote:
S&S Design No. 1904. The letter "C" has been adopted on the used boat market, "classic", identifying it as the first 34 from Tartan. The second TARTAN 34, which is also a S&S design, is commonly referred to as the TARTAN 34-2.
There was an option (rarely selected) to substitute a pilot berth for the cabinet storage to port, over and outboard of the dinette.

The foot of the mainsail was shortened from the original design at least twice to improve balance and/or to lower it's IOR rating.
Hull 125 and later: E = 12.0'
Hull 200 and later: E = 10.5' (displayed here)
A yawl rig was advertised as an option.

"It is not so much for its beauty that the sea makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air, that emanation from the waves, that so wonderfully renews a weary spirit."

Thanks for the info. After taking another look it turns out I was wrong about the rig. I looked at a lot of boats and got the apples in with the oranges.

Re: Tartan 34C rig dimensions

Wanted to buy a Tartan 34C when I boat my current boat. The main boom was shortened twice largely to lower the IOR rating though it also reduced weather helm. Personally would rather have the sail area of the original boom length as I tolerate it if the boat goes faster. The rig was also changed from double lowers to single lowers somewhere along the way. There used to be a quite active website for the boats with lots of information. A google search should turn it up.
