Re: TS Joaquin

Looks like the mariners on the U.S. flagged cargo ship El Faro had things break bad for them because of Joaquin. Hoping for a good outcome:

Re: TS Joaquin

That's a good article Jon. Certainy that is how I understand the forecasting and I will go one further; if the jet stream doesn't straighten out the east coast remains vulnerable for another month. The door is open. To whatever tropical storm may develop.

Sad situation.
Take heed of this article if you are planning on sailing south to the Caribbean this season. With the Antilles current (last reported position of this vessel) feeding the Gulfstream north of the Bahamas, any containers lost from this vessel could be littering the south bound sailing routes.

11 am NOAA has it even further off shore. Great news!

I won't be able to fly back, and don't need to now it looks like going offshore so I can't do a beer with you guys this time but I will be in town in a few weeks.
Contrary to popular opinions I don't drink much. Beal Street in Memphis had to put on more Police last night..Tonight we are going for a record!

That ship El Faro is not a small ship! 735 very and 33 crew.
Lets hope they find it, the crew all safe.

Scary. I once served as an engineering officer on a container ship in the Puerto Rico-NY trade that ship is on. Loss of engine power in weather like this is something the crew does not want to even think about.
