Weird stuff.
If Irma went across shallow Okeechobee it would blow the water out.

People wondered the same thing at Ao Nang, Thailand some years back.....
Not sure I'd assume anything and go walking out to see.

People can say they want freedom, but offer them the keys to what chains them, a map to where they want to go,
And they'll turn it down for the cell they know

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.

Minne: That is what I was thinking, as the third law of physics states, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It would suck to be standing there filming when the water rolls back.....

Re: Long Island Bahamas IRMA: Where is the water?

Same thing happened to Tampa Bay. A whole lot of the water sucked out before Irma came through. This always happens when a major storm comes through, but this time it was quite a bit more extreme than previously. They say that that is one of the reasons that there was not a lot of damage from storm surge in the Bay area -- because 2/3rds of the "normal" surge was taken up just refilling the Bay.

Re: Long Island Bahamas IRMA: Where is the water?

The same happened to the Chesapeake Bay in the 1950s ... about 6 ft. of water was sucked out of the bay when a hurricane 'kissed' along the Atlantic Coast from Cape Charles northwards.
When a hurricane hits the coast south of Cape Henry (Norfolk area), the Chesapeake typically fills with water during such storms.
All this is due to the anti-clockwise rotation and the significant low pressure at the center ('eye') of the storm.
