What is more fun than a westerly nomad?
The answer................................2 westerly nomads! I just drove to penopscot maine saturday (600 mile round trip) and braved the legendary maine fog to buy my second nomad. And i am still married. My son and i have fitted our first nomad on a trailer designed for ramp launching and we sail it about every other weekend. Next year we will be taking longer trips and doing overnights. When i saw this sister ship on craigslist she talked to me. My son and i like working on our "maggie" almost as much as we like sailing her. Hey people buy multiple classic cars to repair because they like working on cars, it is not much of a leap to do the same with great boats like the nomad.
Anyway the plan is to continue to work on and enjoy sailing our maggie, and also work on and set up our new nomad in a similar fashion, ramp launchable and trailerable anywhere. I get excited about making someone elses dreams come true some day with the second nomad.
The more i learn about the nomad the more i am convinced it is the ultimate freedom machine. You tow it anywhere, sleep and eat in it while on the road and then ramp launch it almost anywhere. I have my maggie set up now so it is as easy or more easy to retrieve than most power boats of the same size. I have read almost everything that you can read on sailboats and trailering, but i have learned some thin gs that were never mentioned that have made all the difference.
Probably the most cool thing is that i can retrieve my fixed keel nomad at dead low tide while the power boats wait for the tide to fill.
Two weekends ago my son and i were fishing of maggie (he caught 22 fish to my 16) when a pod of porpoises surfaced just astearn.
A great boat making great times for me and my son. Next year we will bring other family and friends.
Just wanted to share the excitement!
