We have ten weeks to go until Pegu Club is back in the water. Rather than get grumpy over the latest snowfall, I decided to break out our new-to-us GoPro and get some practice with it. Hopefully those of you in the northeast and other cold-weather regions will get a smile out of it.

I can't seem to get it to embed, so the link will have to do.

10 weeks? Six and a half for me!! April is spent commissioning in the water. I love coming back from an early May shakedown sail and seeing everyone on the dock, just getting their canvas reinstalled. :)

I hope the time passes quickly! Im on the hard for a few years doing a refit. In the very beginning stages now.
Luckily I still get out on the water here weekly as a p/t captain, not sailing but enjoy being out on the water

Nice video! I envy your snow. This year Minneapolis is getting the cold, but not the snow. It's one-freaking-degree outside, but there's hardly any snow. I went for a bike ride today and went past Lake Nokomis where I keep my boat and Lake Harriet where the club I'm in keeps boats. Lots of people ice fishing and one hockey rink, but no boats. Sigh.

It's eleven weeks at a minimum before boats go in here. It'll probably be twelve or thirteen before I get mine in.

Normally, it would be 6 weeks with a couple of those painting and waxing. But this year, I'm going to be on the sidelines for a while recovering from ACL and meniscus surgery. Blew out my knee landing badly after jumping from the 2nd step of a ladder. Of all the stuff that I've done to myself on boats, ski slopes, skateboards, to blow my knee painting a room in the house is ironic to say the least. I hope to do a distance race in May - my crew says that I can sit in recliner below and pack the chute!

It showed a high temp here today of 5, -15 tonight, wind chills, um unbearably cold... looks like 11 weeks or so to splash for me.

Just got the tiller pilot installed today though.... with 135,000 BTU heater blaring at me it got to a whopping 35 degrees in the barn.

everyone.. born to be wild..

There is something about sub zero. No doubt it is cold in the barn at 35°, but man.. just walking from the car to the store with it at -10... that is just brutal.

Makes me wonder how people sail around the artic...

One thing is certain. I will NEVER sail around the arctic. I told Mr. Cthoops that when we cast off the lines (only 6 more winters!), we're sticking with warm climates. I want to get to the point where I need a jacket when it's 70 degrees out, because I'm chilled.

I'm in south eastern NY and your movie could have been shot in my neighborhood yesterday.

This weather is a deal breaker for me. I'd b happy to just SEE water or even just walk outside on the grass and not shiver. I also have 6 years until I can retire and plan on avoiding this winter thing entirely after that.

Boat is on the water- but it's landlocked by ice, the ice normally disappears end March early April.

Only need to remove the cover and put sails back on to start the sailing season.
Planning on a short haul out around May to do bottom and polish the hull.

Shot this video on Jan 23 when it was -11C outside, -5C inside the boat, my boat is not in this shot (it's in the middle of the row at the end of the video)
In the video you can see how the bubbles keep the ice away.

Three degrees this morning. Got down to the boat last week on the only day it was be above 32 degrees F for a week. Not pretty. Blizzard from a week before blew enough snow under the hatches to halfway fill the bilge which is now frozen solid: THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: WINTERLUDE 2015
I'm not asking for much but, right now I'd just love to see some temps in the mid thirties.

Just checked the weather (8 a.m. ) and it is -15.

That is the Adirondacks, I love it here...but for the vortex

I can't even get to my boat right now, the Marina where I store her only plows the main parking for the "wet storage" boats. I have some work due this year so hopefully we can get there by April:laugher

I normally splash in late April/early May but this year will probably be late May. They put me towards the back this year but that just gives me more time to work on it. I hate lugging tools to it once on the mooring.

Our marina positions you in the order you asked to be launched in the Spring. It's great, if you want to get in early. However, you have no choice but to get out of the way, if you change your mind. Which I never do!!

I love winter, every fall I really look forward to it. I enjoy shoveling so much that I rarely use our snowblower and I often shovel the neighbors out as well. The first sub-zero day? A delight! The way snow squeaks when it get that cold and how everything sounds different, the acoustics of the atmosphere change.

But by mid-February, dear God, it's gone on too long. I've had enough.

We're taking a long weekend at a waterpark resort this week. It's not as good as the Bahamas, but at least for three days I can wear a swimsuit and not have to go outside.
