I have had an ongoing problem with water flow through the exhaust. It appears I can't hold a prime. Once, the flow started, everything works perfectly. But, If I let it set a week or so, I lose the prime.

Now, I can't get any water out the exhaust at all.

I've changed the impeller, checked the intake filter. Checked the filter o-ring seal, went over all the hoses looking for cracks, poured water down the top of the water pump hoping to get a prime. Nothing works.

How can I find the problem?

Sounds like you have wear in the pump that is opening up the clearances between the body and the impeller. Try removing the cover and look to see if it has circular grooves in it. Filing it smooth may fix things for awhile.

simple things first. Could there be something covering the intake? if the boat is sitting slime can cover the intake.
I did have the same problem last year. Finally realized that the gasket on the pump cover was too thick! (PO, grrrrs) you must use the very very thin gasket made for the pump. "homemade" from gasket material was way to thick and the space kept the pump from priming. Also got a new impeller cover since the old one was worn. We also found out later the the anti siphon loop was by passing some water from the muffler. Pretty happy with the output now!

I had polished the face plate, no wear there.

Denise. It has the thin gasket, no wrinkles or tears.
The pump works fine once a prime is established.

I'm lost.

I found it! !
After I hauled the boat, I removed the intake grate, no zebra mussels. Then I shined a light up inside. When they fitted the boat, they used a 1/2 cup of silicone and it squeezed out, shutting the intake to a hole the size of a lead pencil.
