A "tall ship" is one powered by sails, which require masts, which, particularly compared with the height above the water of powered ships of equal size, are "tall" (tho' some are taller than others, eh?)I don't know what defines a "tall ship" but I was lucky enough to see the A.J. Meerwald under sail once and she is a VERY pretty ship.
