My 1971 A4 ran fine for 20 minutes, after which we sailed for an hour. 30 seconds after restarting to come home through the channel, it slowed and died over a 4 second period. I could restart it, but it would only run 15 seconds or so and peter out.

Checked fuel OK, manual fuel pump bail felt hard immediately after stopping.

Ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like a plugged fuel filter - with little or no demand a bit of fuel passes through - once the engine starts drawing it's starving for fuel.

If it starts briefly each time, then it's likely a fuel supply or air supply issue.
