BTW, you can have a "cold molded" boat that is not fiberglassed. fiberglass is not part of the process. "cold molded" is thin veneer stripes glued together like plywood while being held curved over a male mold . the Bluejay is a hard chined plywood boat designed to be a smaller version of the Lightning sloop. many of the older boats were covered with thin fiberglass to help make the boat last longer. if done right it is not a problem and adds some strength with little weight increase. Around 1960 they started molding them in fiberglass but the fiberglass hulls came out on the heavy side compared to some well built wooden boats. there are still wooden boats being made today. with used boats it is all about condition but wooden boats do require a little more TLC compared to all fiberglass boats.
