Almost liveaboards....less than a month!

Well, we've been very busy. First - we've sold our house. A private sale, we signed the contract April 10th and we close on May 23rd. So, since April 10th, we have quickly been going through 35 years of Life. We are taking furniture, etc to 3 consignment stores and storing the rest. We are totally done in by 4 everyday...but, we are sleeping well. Ha

We've changed our address to a UPS Store, and have started making the change with banks, credit cards, insurances, cancelling services, etc. Today we are going down to get our drivers license changed to our new address.

Hopefully we'll be living on our boat by the last week of May...we will go up to where it is, rent a hotel and then clean the inside and re-outfit with what we think we need, to live comfortably.

This spring we've had or it is still being added: solar power, all new water lines, vent hoses, and a water filter system to the head and galley, updating all fuel hoses, exhaust hoses, etc on our Atomic 4, all non-skid redone, the hull lines repainted, the bottom repainted, the hull waxed and buffed.

We plan on living on our boat thru Nov...and at that point we will decide if we want to take her on down the TomBigBee, etc to warmer weather and waters for the winter. That is my wish, I'm hoping Hubs decides that it is his, too. He is actually getting excited about living on the boat. Which I am so thankful for. ;)

Once our "new" home is set up, I'll post pictures. Wish us luck and watch out for us on Kentucky Lake, we are newbie sailors!! :D

Congratulations on having the courage to take the plunge, and on the quick and successful sale of your home. That is excellent! Good luck with the move!
Thanks jimgo!! It has been a whirlwind for sure. And, at times, a little sad. I find, if I let myself sit and ponder about it too much, I get sellers remorse. So I try to keep slogging along. ;)

sailing terrapin - That is great!! We'll have to keep up with each other and compare notes. Good luck and have fun!!! :)
Congratulations, wishing you fair winds, safe travels and an experience you will never forget. Many ppl dream it, so few get the opportunity to do it. Go forth and don't look back, you will never regret it. I have never met so many wonderful ppl and made so many friends as we have in the last 9 months of living aboard our sailboat. All the best.

Congratulations and good luck. It has been 25 years since I made the leap. Three bedroom house to one bedroom apartment to 27 foot sailboat.

Getting rid of a few decades accumulation of stuff was the most difficult part. I had no use for it but could not bring myself to part with it. I still have a small crate in a friends barn in Vermont filled with mostly junk I was attached to for some reason I can't remember now.

Free advice: Unless you plan on returning to shore based life fairly soon, don't bother putting anything in storage. After a few years you will wonder why you bothered saddling yourself with storage fees for stuff you no longer want or need. A safe deposit box for important papers and expensive jewelry is a good idea but, if I had it to do it over, I would be ruthless about discarding anything that is incompatible with life on the boat. Convert it to cash if possible; more useful, more portable.

Hi OffWeGo!! So glad everything is working out for you. I can't wait to finally get on the boat and say...this is our home!! I'll try to report as we go thru the summer. Have fun!!
Hi Vega1860 - I have been following your blog for over a year now. Your blog, and your video's of your sails down to Hawaii and back, and your time spent in Alaska. A dream of mine!! Thank you for sharing your adventures with all of us!!

We do have a big lock box and just getting important papers, jewelry, etc out of the house has been a big relief. And we do have a storage unit. Not quite ready to get rid of the antiques. We are doing quite well, I think, of disposing other stuff - although, at times it has been sad, but...a lot of our stuff has set in 3 cedar chests for years...and we've not even looked at it...so, once I realized that, it made it a bit easier to take to the consignment stores.

Happy day and smooth sailing!!
