While cruising, there are so many things in nature that you just don't anticipate. That's why I always carry a couple cameras. Some events are so fast you never get an opportunity to take that once in a lifetime photo, but then, sometimes you are fortunate enough to capture those images, both video and stills.

I walked out on the dock tonight where my next door neighbor has suspended an underwater lamp. The things that I've seem have been fascinating to say the least, but none as fascinating at this large, swimming nudibranch.

OK, I have to admit I have never heard of a nudibranch . Do they often bang their head on a sea wall ? Anyhow that was cool vid , what cam did you use ?

That was about a 7-pound snook cruising about three feet below looking for an easy meal. I've also seen a dozen squid, some shrimp, a few sea horses, lots of snappers, moonfish, and sharks ranging 4 to 10 feet, mostly nurse sharks, but the larger ones were bull sharks. I WOULD NOT jump into the canal for a short swim. Bull sharks can be very aggressive and they scare the Hell out of me.

Mark, I think it was feeding on something attached to the wall, but I'm not exactly sure what they feed upon.

No, I don't think so, it's essentially one of 3000 sea slugs, which vary quite a bit and distributed world wide in temperate and tropical waters.

OK , 1 of 3,000 . The pig is a slug . So just maybe it could be a distant relative of a , what the the hell was that thing called , a nudeslug or what ever . i'm thinking the nude slug came from a pig slug's breathing hole . and what was your cam .

Nudibrachs are some of my favorite creatures in the sea. More ofter, and more colourful in the Great Barrier Reef and other coral areas.

Do a Google image search and you will ve surprised at these beautiful but unkown critters.

The camera I used to shoot this video was the Kodak ZX1 HD, which I purchased on Ebay for $25. It does a great job, but eats batteries like they're candy.

The water is truly full of some bizzare creatures, literally a different world. Although given the fact most of our little rocky blob is covered in the stuff, I guess we are the bizzare ones.

Damn Gary my buddy and his wife have a place on Big Pine. Summer afternoons they lay out in the canal on floats with a cooler and cocktails. I can`t imagine their reaction if they saw a Big dorsal fin cruising down the canal !

I brought a camera with me, when I sailed around Delmarva.
I saw plenty of critters, but they were always gone by the time I raised the lens!

Very frustrating.

Bubs, I have thousands of photos from the Delmarva. In my boat the camera case is just a few feet away at all times. I use a Pelican case, which is 100 percent waterproof and I keep both a video and still camera in it at all times. The only shots I've never been quick enough to capture were when I was off the coast of Georgia and a right whale surfaced about 1/4 in front of the boat. The entire episode only took three seconds, and the camera will not boot up that fast.
