The winner of the February SailNet Captain of the Month is Howard @HPeer. A new competition starts April FOOLSDAY!
Just thought of sharing a very functional idea with all those who find it difficult to understand why does a block with a spring almost double the cost of its basic version.
Faster, seems the tight rope and rubber hose maintain it up by attrition. I have some blocks on deck, I didn't find a spring replacement unity, not for cost savings. Seems interesting, I'll give it a try ....
I had "flop-around" genoa-sheet blocks on the coamings of my old MacGregor 19 - just regular "becket" blocks on strap-eyes. I found the same springs that come under the Harken "stand-up" blocks were about $1.50 at West Marine ... took a little finessing to reinstall the becket's clevis pin through the spring coils, but the blocks stood up proud from then till I sold the boat.
I'm always quick to accept the simple cheap alternatives! These tennis balls have been holding up my sheet blocks for a number of years. It's time for me to replace them.
...'take care and joy, Aythya crew
