I'm a student undertaking research for my dissertation about Sailing & Art/Design. If you could spare just a few moments to answer these questions.
It would be a great help and much appreciated! Thank you!

I took the survey. Very interesting, however, I think more people would have interest in the designs on spinnakers rather than mains.

If the pattern wasn't too obtrusive, I would consider it on a main. I'd need to be able to see the tell tails, and sail shape, so the pattern can't be so obtrusive as to mask the visuals.

I would have a few questions, how are the graphics applied and how do they age? Can it be applied to older sails? I would imagine you could incorporate a jib or genoa into a larger "scene"? I like the idea a lot and would definitely consider it for my boat. Spinnakers with designs have been around a long time, it would be nice to see something other than corporate logos on other sails.

That's a very interesting subject. I could see sails incorporating art forms. Especially in sailing schools and community programs.

The flower pattern on the cruising boat didn't seem right but the racing fleet did.

I think I'd like to see more experimentation of the idea on a range of boats.

Thanks, enjoyed the survey.

What your survey did not do was investigate whether there's a bias in answers depending on young/old or new sailor/old salt, east/west US coast, cultural differences, etc. I would suspect that older sailors might be more traditional; young sailors more interested in being noticed.

CoryB1 requested that his survey link be removed as the survey was "too successful." He also asked that the threads be deleted (which I won't do) and that his account be deleted.

I say this so that there's no expectation that he/she will respond to direct questions.

Strange....

Probably, it's just something that hasn't 'caught on' yet. If a vessel has a female name, and a busty beauty under the bowsprit, the field is wide open just like the sides of buildings, trucks, and buses.
