If anyone is interested in getting together for a drink or two this evening, I'd like to announce the arrival of Pelican in Annapolis in approximately one hour. We're going to pick up a mooring in Spa Creek, launch the dinghy, and kiss the ground once we're in. We're then going to grab dinner and then get hammered. It was a heck of a ride up the Delaware, and then the Chesapeake threw some pretty hefty fits too. Send an e-mail with your # to sailnet at ispmanage dot com and we'll figure out a place to go. It will have to be within walking distance of the dinghy dock (i.e. downtown or Eastport).

Chris,

Glad to hear all went well, the Delaware is always more nasty than nice.

Wish we could join, but I'm sure you'll find some like minded salty folk in town!. I'd recommend my favorite haunt, McGarvey's Saloon, just a stagger and a stumble away from the dingy dock on ego alley (order the mussels). Weather dependent, we're looking to pick up a ball this Saturday, how about a rain check?

I can confirm that Chris made it:

Chris, sorry we missed you. We arrived a couple hours ahead of you after a 25 mile thrash to windward. Got the last slip available in ego alley. Went to a pub to warm up, then crashed early and slipped out around 8 am after breakfast. We took a few loops around your boat, but it looked pretty quiet so we did not hale you.

Cheers, and well done!!

Awwww you guys are making me hungry for a burger at Davis or pizza at Mangia's or better yet dinner at Lemon Grass! Just returned to MO after hauling the boat last week at Jabins in Back Creek. Stay warm and safe and enjoy downtown Annapolis! Nice photo of Pelican!

Hey all - I'm over at Jabins now... more info up at my blog. That's a great shot of Pelican!

John - were you coming down the Chesapeake too? We got nailed an hour or so after leaving the C&D Canal. The winds were 20+ kts and the sea state was worse than the Delaware - steep, short period waves. Even with our engine at high RPM's and our main up we were being pushed backwards. I've never had that happen before! I'm pretty much guessing that it was due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time right when the tide was changing, and the big winds didn't help. We were taking greenies over the top of our dodger AND our bimini. On top of all that, it was cold. We moved closer to shore and it was a bit easier. After that nastiness died down, the waves all started coming from our beam... not a fun ride down.

BTW - thanks for taking the last slip. We poked around looking for one and contemplated tying up to the wall, but decided to grab a mooring instead.

We went to Pussers last night, had a couple of Painkillers, and then went to The Boatyard in Eastport for a light dinner. We passed out around 10pm and then woke up around 8:30am. Thanks for not yelling - we needed the sleep.

Tomorrow mid-morning I head back home to finish up selling and packing, and then I'll be back down at the beginning of December...

SVAuspicious - You mean the ego alley docks? Will you be around in the morning after 9:30 or so? If I get a moment I'll stop by and knock... Assuming your boat is bow in and I wouldn't be able to see the name on the stern, what does it look like?

Chris,

Hey, sorry about that last slip, but you know, first come, first serve.:)

Sounds like you guys took a beating too. And here I kept telling you that once you arrived ain the Chesapeake your worries would be over!

We were actually coming across from St. Michaels, which with the wind from WNW ended up being a beat pretty much the entire way (we were able to crack off slightly coming down Eastern Bay.) It definitely was a squirrelly gusty wind and nasty unpleasant chop/waves. I don't have an anemometer aboard, but we were reefed down and still quite hard pressed. At one point we took such a severe gust that we actually buried not merely the rail, but we took water over the cockpit coaming. That has never happened before!! Yes, very cold on arrival!

We'd be interested to hear more about your overall voyage. Maybe you could post a follow-up in the other thread?
