Actually, according to Cornell's world cruising routes, the best time for the Canary Island to Bahamas run is March to May... so if they waited until March, they would probably be okay. :) The suggested route is 3328 NM and goes as follows:

Las Palmas .......28˚07;N 15˚24'W to
.......................20˚00'N;60˚00'W to
Salvador ..........23˚54'N;74˚32'W to
Cockburn Town .24˚03'N;74˚31.5'W.

thanks for the info, I've just ordered Cornells Cruising Routes, normally boats from the med would have left by now, but we're a bit behind schedule!! looking to head for Trinidad so don't know if that changes anything.

thanks

Shouldn't change much... basically that's the same as Canaries to Lesser Antilles, which can be done from mid-November to May according to WCR.

Route is:

Las Palmas to St. Lucia, to Rodney Bay. A bit shorter at 2819 NM or so.

I did the passage in April a few years back. It was okay, but the trades seem to have died down. I had a 5 day stretch of very little wind. It was a very pleasant cruise.
