Repairable. Sounds like a loose connection internally. Can you do any soldering? It isn't that hard. If not find a local college that has an electronics course to do the hard stuff and buy him a case of beer. Even a decent TV/ AV repair guy can do it.

As it isn't factory repairable, pop it open carefully. Gently pull on any wiring that you see. If it's loose, fix it up. Look at the tracks on the circuit boards. If you see a corroded track it may disconnect when the case is bumped due to flexing. Bypass those sections by soldering a wire from point to point. Buy a small can of conformal coating at Radio Shack (or other electronicsc source) to recover afterwards.

Not a problem! :D It just sounds hard and it'll impress your slipmates when you tell them you did it yourself.
