Hi folks

Im looking at a 1993 Beneteau 265 and i have some questions for any body who knows any thing about them.

How is the keel attached on these? Im going to attach a picture which quite frankly has me spooked. Right where the keel meets the hull you can see lots of bottom paint chipped away and some white crap which im being told is cauking. If any body could shed some light on this i would very much appreciate it. The marks above the keel are apparently pressure washer marks.

Sail data and the brochure says this boat has a 3.7' keel and a 4.9' keel. The site lists the boat at 4'2" and the guy measured for me and guessed it about 4'. Did they ever make a in between keel size?

How do these things sail? The PHRF on them does not look bad averaging around 195. Im coming from a J80 and i know the boat won't be the same but i want something that is comfy below but still spirited. This boat has some great features for it's size.

Thanks for reading!

Draft <> Keel size.

The boat displaces water without the keel. My keel fully retracts, but the boat still drafts about 18" of water.

Looks like it's the shallower draft from the picture.

The First 265 was on my list of "interesting boats," but I found myself steering more towards the 285 when I compared them. They are for sure very similar boats.

I know the keels are iron. I can only speculate from there. Probably bolted through and "glued" on. Any rust on the keel bolts, or water in the bilge?

I believe the above poster is correct. It should be bolted on and provided there is no rust taking hold or leaking in the bilge that you see, I don't think this is an issue other than it could be made to look a little prettier.

Does any body have any suggestions on the join here? Would you back the bolts out 3/4 so there is a gap you can clean out and then reseal? We have a 15 ton crane and home so it would not be hard for us to lift the boat.
