okay, i have my sails at home, what is the best for cleaning them. they have stains that are dirt, rust and just got some dirty motor on the main. and fow do i do it? i have thought about just trying dish soap for the oil, maybe some hand cleaner. i may try to do laundry soap as a first step.

It would help if you said what your sails were made of. If they are dacron/polyester using a mild cleaner like Oxy-Clean should work.

Make sure you use a soap, and not a detergent. Most detergents, especially laundry detergents are fairly harsh and can damage the coatings that are used to stiffen sailcloth.
