It's that time of year again. BFS-Cup-Mania.

Last year, Alex's kid, Fred took the cup. And trust me, he was stoked about that 16" of sweet bling.

Pickle dish? I think not.

So, once again, let's see which group of big freakin' sailors Sailnetters think are the gnarliest in the whole damn world...at least for this year. I got my own ideas - what are yours?

Now, bear in mind, this poll can be tossed overboard at any time. Since we've seen certain "tactics" in the past by unnamed sailors for "click inflation" - there will be an "MDB Rule" strictly enforced with the voting. If it doesn't jive with the evidence in BFS - it's gone. Is this fair? What the hell do I care?

So, check out the BFS thread - then come here and vote for the group that is truly throwin' down. He are the contenders (Note the US-centric "map" being used. If we start getting a true showing from across the waves, maybe this changes. But probably not.):

Westies - (San Diego to Seattle)
Easties - (Moose Cove to Miami)
Gulfies - (Brownsville to Tampa)
Lakies - (Locked out of the Briney)
Supernorthies - (Canada and Alaska)
Supersouthies - (Australia, Central America & Asia)
Eurpies - (The whole damn continent)
Others - (Whoever we forgot - we suck at geology*)

Voting will end December 30, 2009. And the Cup will soon thereafter be sent to the lucky sailor selected by his/her contingency to receive the bling.

Got it? Let's do this.

(PS - If you've got buddies on other forums who think they rate with our own SiNcitiers, invite them over here to throw down their BFS - and we'll see about that. It's open to all.)

Others - (Whoever we forgot - we suck at geology*)

Geology is the study of rock formations and how the land masses and continents were built. Geography is the study of the limits and cartography of said boundaries.
You forgot the Arctic and Antarctic sailors of which there are several, if not many. There are also survivors of Tsunamis who may deserve recognition in your poll: Latitude 38 - The West's Premier Sailing & Marine Magazine
There are also a lot of merchant mariners out there doing there stuff but they are not likely to be in sail boats.
Have at.

Not fair! I cry fowl. Yes fowl. If you can use geology that way then I can quack in protest.

Why am I raising this flap? Because the BFS season in the east isn't over yet. Some people think now is the best time to sail. The wind can be consistently strong in the fall here.

...That and there's no way to beat that guy who powered his sailboat off the concrete dock as the tsunami water started to ebb.

No worries dude. You have another 90 days to pull down something serious. My hunch is that the votes won't really start crankin' until the end of November so everyone can see who's doing what.

I'll just keep bumping it until then - while you quack around in your fitty.

SO does my boom breakage last march in mid 30 knot winds count? looks like FWB this weekend will be a bit boring. Forecast one split will be 10-20 out of the north, then next forecaster on will say light becoming northerly in the afternoon to 10 knots........hmmmmmm.......could be a long day on the RC boat................

Yep.. the easties season isn't over yet! We got hit with 70mph winds on our way UP from Norfolk, but we're leaving mid-October to head to Washington DC! Anything can happen :)

Nah - we've gotta keep it simple. We've already been through the "Great Lakes are more than just lakes", blah, blah. Then some dude in Kazakhstan was miffed that I didn't include rivers and the early Macedonian empire. Whatever.

Bottom line - if it's big it counts....even in Kazakhstan.

Holy crap - the Easties are spanking the rest of the civilized world! Then, of course, you have the very uncivilized Gulfies blinging it up at 2.

At least the legendary sailing Eurpies (Norway, Spain, UK, France, Italy, Russia, etc.) are tied with the Others (Bahrain, Iraq, The Republic of Congo, etc.). That's something I guess.

Does "Lakies" mean the Great Lakies?

this takes the cake:

The Briny without the "brine"

It's not over on the Lakes either- going out Saturday. :) Fall is shaping up much better than Summer ;)

We don't put her away until the 2nd week of November.
