About 18 months ago I set up the ice box drain on my C42 so that the melted ice water drains directly into the bilge instead of into the aft shower sump (as designed by Catalina). Now as the ice melts, the water is eventually pumped overboard automatically by the bilge pump. Often the old system would back up into the ice box and the refrigerator if I forgot to run the sump pump.
My bilge is very clean (no oil leaks, spills, etc), and this water is obviously fresh water, but there is always an inch or two left behind by the bilge pump. There is no apparent damage to anything in my bilge, and a recent haul out for a bottom job showed no blisters or other problems; but lately I''ve started to wonder if this set up can cause any long term damage to the boat. Any comments?
