Left Kusadasi Turkey in late April and bashed north to Istanbul then turned to starboard and headed along the north coast of Turkey to Georgia and yesterday made Sochi Russia.
It is not a trip to be taken lightly. A lot of planning on wind and wave conditions and knowing when to run and when to get in. This is the first real marina as there are no anchorages but lots of fishing ports with minimal or no facilities but great people.
Your boat needs to be fully equipped as you will probably not get shore power or water - can jerry can water and fuel.

Navonics electronic charts have been excellent except in Sochi where they put in a new cruise ship terminal recently.

As for paperwork. a lot of research and make sure you have everything in the cruising guide by Baker. And you need to get a visa for Russia for without it you can not enter and it takes time to get.
We started planning this trip in November and left late April and so far all the planning has paid off.
OH and leave any attitude at home. People have been great along the way and we accept them as they are and the conditions as they are and accept them without complaint or question.
just some thoughts so far.
This is NOT an easy trip.
