Many companies that write BOAT insurance limit to smaller boats only. Companies that write YACHT policies generally don't. Progressive MIGHT be a yacht policy.
I agree about experience with insurance and larger boats. I went from 26' power to 42' sail. Some companies would not cover me, said come back in 3 years. I'd been with Boat US; they said 'sure, you have a good track record with us'. And I got very good rates too. Not sure what Boat US would have said if I had not been a prior customer. I suspect I would have had a higher premium for the first year or 2.
