Hey everyone, just an FYI if you have not seen yet...Mathew, over on the https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/bristolboatowners private forum, has suggested a 50th Bristol Yachts, summer of 2016, party and gathering in Bristol RI at the original factory location. We are going to be putting a committee together. All are welcome to partake in putting the event together and or just come to the event. More info coming as we know it. Please come to the other forum to check it out!

Glad to hear Ken! We will be posting more info as it comes. Now that the weather is about to break, we will be pushing forward.

It's cute that you think the weather is going to break.
It's bound to happen, no spring this year, right into summer... I have started the almost daily trek to the boat to work on what I can in the cold. Parking on the snow to get to her with my jeep.

Where is the global warming? My palm trees are not liking this!

We are on for next years Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversary Reunion 6/23/16 thru 6/26/16 in Bristol RI. The final contact we needed Was Clinton Pearson (86 years old), He has agreed to join us and speak at this historic event! As well as Halsey Herreshoff and Dieter Empacher. Mr. Pearson is also putting together a list of other special guests, like his grandson Charley Enright, the skipper of the Alvimedica Boat in the Volvo Ocean Race, Clinton Pearson's grandson! More information will be given out as it comes to us. Stay tuned... We also got permission to use the Bristol Yachts Company first generation plaque logo as our event logo! We can now move forward with finalizing plans and reservations for the event. We are looking to start early registration 1 year in advance. So far we have a tentative 26 Bristol Yachts and 61 people coming, these people have signed up, but this was just an early indication of interest for the event and no means guarantees you a spot at the event. The event will be limited to 250 people. The only guarantee with be your actual registration, so register early! We are hoping to start registration 6/1/15. Details will be coming soon!

This is my once a month reminder: Registrations for the Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversary Gala have been steadily pouring in! Space is limited, so get that paperwork in early!

This is a request for you to submit your best pictures of your Bristol Yacht sailboat for us to use to put together a slideshow at the Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversary Honored guest dinner, Saturday night 6/25/2016. I would like at least one nice picture of every size boat.

Please email full file size pictures to me with your name, boat name, boat size, year built, hull number, where you sail and when you purchased her. I will add this info to your picture and add it to the slide show. You can submit as many pictures as you want, including interiors and scenic pictures with your Bristol in the picture. I will do a series of pictures of your boat with what you submit.

Hi everyone, this is another part of the Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversary Event 6/23/16 thru 6/26/16 in Bristol RI.

East Bay Sailing Foundation will be organizing this race for us, Saturday morning
6/25/16 around 10:00 am. The race will be a Pursuit race around Hog Island, slower
boats start first...There will be a small registration entry fee to be announced ASAP.

This form is non-binding. If you are interested in joining in, please send in the form so
we have an idea of how many boats will be attending.

If you do not want to race your boat, are not coming by boat and want to crew on a boat, please send in this form and we will see if there is space on a boat for you to crew on, or just enjoy the ride.

To make this easier I have add an online sign up sheet.

Great Day with Eric Berger, and my Grandson Johnny yesterday. 1st we met with Dieter Empacher and his wife Marge at his home / office in Marblehead Ma. It was really cool going through his original Bristol Yachts drawings, all done in pencil and by hand. He never used CAD or a computer. Some great stories and insight. They also took us on a tour of Marblehead, which included Ted Hoods old facilities and the offices of Little Harbor Boats, where many of our designs were drawn. Dieter and Marge will be coming to the reunion and will be at the VIP / Honored Guest Clambake on Saturday night. Eric took lots of pictures and videos, and I'm sure he will be posting some soon.

Also had an incredible meeting with the USCGA (Arnie Geller), who is the community outreach coordinator for USCG Sector Southeast. They are really stepping up and coming up with some good ideas. We will be doing USCGA Vessel Safety Inspections on Saturday. I need to contact the Bristol Harbor Master (Greg Marsilli) to see about using some town dock space to allow attendee's to tie up pierside for 30 minutes at a time for the inspectors to conduct the inspections. After I figure out how many boats we can inspect at a time, and the time frame that the peir will be available on Saturday, we will be generating a signup list. If you've never had a USCGA Vessel Safety Inspection its worth your time. It's also nice to have the current USCGA Safety Inspection sticker displayed to help send the message that you are a proactive and safe boater, which helps avoid being selected for random on-water boardings and inspections (along with wearing your PFD).

There is a USCG station in Bristol, so there was some discussion of bringing in a USCG vessel for display. We asked the USCGA to speak at our event on Friday, but to focus their presentation to an advanced audience, so besides information about PFD's, current safety concerns, what the USCGA is and what they do, we talked about having a discussion on the capabilities and operation of the modern VHF radio with DSC, how to utilize all the features (distress and DSC calling), as well as EPIRBS, PLB's, AIS, and the USCG's Rescue 21 system. If anyone is bringing kids or young ones, they have "Coastie" their remote controlled talking tugboat, and items to handout to the kids. My Grandson Johnny (5 years old) inspected Coastie and the coloring book that they hand out and ensures me it passes inspection and meets a young child's standards (he loved that thing even though it wasn't running at the time).

We asked them if they had anything that would be a good attention grabber. Something that would get people up in the morning and in attendance for the 1st lecture. They are working on bringing an advanced Damage Control Training trailer that they use for USCG boat crews and commercial fishermen. Not something they normally do for boatshows and recreational events, but we are hoping to provide some usefull training for both offshore sailors in attendance as well as those developing their skills and working towards offshore goals. They hook it up to a water source and then start different leaks/ flooding scenarios, while the crew inside uses available resources to stop the leak before it fills up with water (and sinks). They can also bring the portable pump that they drop to disabled mariners from helicopters to demonstrate how that gets used. We also discussed a seminar highlighting what the offshore sailor / boater should have onboard for an "Advanced Damage Control Kit", above and beyond what the standard recreational boater carries. Still working to see if we can get that arranged, but wanted to update everyone.

Clinton Pearson has told us he will be attending the reception at BYC Thursday Night, and will be attending the Friday BBQ and has agreed to lead a question and answer / open discussion forum on Friday for an hour or two. He also will be in attendance at Saturdays Clambake. He is preparing his own presentation / slide show on the Bristol Yachts history.

We are working to get input from Halsey Herreshoff to see what he will be attending. He is local so I would expect to see him allot, throughtout the weekend.

Charlie Enright (Clinton's grandson and Volvo Ocean Racing Skipper) has told us he will be in attendance at the reception Thursday, but that he has other schedule commitments that weekend. We are hoping that his schedule may allow him more time, but that is what he has commited to so far, so if you would like to meet him, plan on being at the reception, which is included with your paid registration.

We are also working with Ted Hood's family to have someone in attendance representing his contribution. We are working on having a tribute to the late Frederick "Ted" Hood on Saturday, but don't have the details quite yet.

If there's any questions or comments, please let us know. We are in process of working out the details at this point, and making sure eveyone knows who/what to expect at each event and whats planned during the day. The earlier people can get their event registrations, individual disclaimers, Friday BBQ / Saturday Dinner reservations, and merchandise orders in, the easier it will make things for the Planning Committee, so please get those registrations, reservations, orders and checks sent in!!!

Sign up sheet for the USCGA Vessel Safety Inspections. These are free of charge. The plan is for Saturday 6/25/16 between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. If this fills up, we can extend the time frame.
