I am looking at buying a 1974 C&C 30 mk1. I have seen lots of good comments about these older boats. My main concern is the design of the swept back rudder. Apparently they redesigned them in 1976. Why? Are they a problem when backing up in a marina? How about running down wind? I am hoping some of you readers will have had experience with these older C&C's.

search cncphotoalbum.com. The scimitar rudders went out of use in the 70s but I don't know the specifics.

If it's anything like the 27', they changed them for a deeper spade style as it worked better, the scimitar tends to loose "bite" and is prone to stalling sooner than the spade. Shouldn't really make much difference in the real world.
