I am looking for any information on setting up a Spinnaker on a C-Lark racing dingy. It looks at though it was an option according to the original brochure. If there are any fellow C-Lark sailors out there who have a Spinnaker equipped, I would love to see how it is rigged up. Please share! :)

It can't be very hard. I've sailed C Larks but not with chute.
You'll need pad eyes on the quarter for sheet/guy. It's not critical where these go but as far aft and outboard is best. You will need blocks for these padeyes. Hex rachet types work well. You'll need a halyard from the hounds or slightly above. You can lead this toi a cam cleat on the mast. You can probably get by fine with a fixed pole height meaning just a pad eye on the mast. Or, if you wanted to be fancy you'll need a some track for the inboard end of the pole on the mast and an uphaul and downhaul with cleats ( often an endless line) to control pole height. I'd go fixed. Then you will need a bridle style foreguy with bridle on the pole going down to a pad eye at the thwart and leading to a cleat that will be convenient for the crew.

You can probably get away with a fixed length spin topping lift, that is what we do on my 505. The downhaul can also be pretty simple compared to on a keel boat.

If you are actually in Seattle (and not a suburb) I'd be interested in helping you figure it out in exchange for a ride on the C-Lark. I've never sailed one and have been curious about them.

It looks like the older small size 505 spinnaker would be a pretty close fit. They are fairly common and cheap. The luff length on the C-Lark spinnaker is 14'9", vs 16'3" on the 505 spin. If your boat doesn't already have a spin halyard I'd consider placing one at the right height for the 505 short luff spin.

I'm leaning more towards an adjustable height pole. It looks like there are a few simple ways I could rig one. I still want to find some examples of C-Larks with Spinnakers so I can get an idea.

I've also seen a few websites the sell aluminum blanks and end fittings. But again, I have no idea where to start since I don't know the pole length. There's gotta be some C-Lark racers on here.

Ok, it's not critical but you want the pole to be perpebdicular to the mast when the spin is full and drawing. But this will change witrh wind pressure so you have to compromise. I'd put it 16" above your boom gooseneck.

Why don't you hoist the chute with the boat on the trailer and check the position before screwing it on. Most dinghys have fixed inboard ends so it's always a compromise.

Boy I'd love to take you up on that offer! Unfortunately I'm in Moses Lake till later this year. Then I will be back home on the greener side of the state.

Right now she is factory rigged (non-racing sloop), without a spinnaker. I'd like to install one so I can learn to spinnaker sail. I don't have any spinnaker gear yet though. I'm trying to do a bit of research on all the hardware I'll need and where to mount everything when the time comes. I like to DIY things. I'll probably have the sail made from Ballard Sails if they can sew me a spinnaker. And really, reading about all this sailing stuff is never boring!

Can you make a reasonably accurate sketch of your rig?

If you place the inboard end of the pole 16" above the gooseneck and then tell Ballard Sails (very good guys) that's where it is they can work with you to make sure the spin works.

You can have some fun with this and I applaud you for giving it a go.

Does Ballard have the dimensions for your spinnaker, Black? If not, I can measure mine. I'm watching here with some interest since I have the spin, but not the pole. I do have some of the rigging. Planning on selling the boat since I moved on to bigger, but I may have to play with it a little more first....

I know this is an old thread, but I have a C-Lark that is set up for a spinnaker. It's been years since I've flown it, but all the hardware is still functional. I need a new bungee for the spinnaker pole, but that's minor. That's my son holding the spinnaker, years ago, when we were playing with it.

I picked up a spinniker pole. Is the spinniker halyard the one just above the stay?

I cut it and it seems right. I have a topping lift rigged but no downhaul for the Spinnaker. There are a couple of Bungie cords one on both sides of the mast. Maybe that is the intention.?
