I am conducting a haul-out inspection on a 1980 Cal 31 next wednesday and would like to have on hand a prop shaft anode to install before boat is put back in the water. Does anyone know the shaft diameter? Boat is equipped with a Universal Atomic Diesel Model 5416.

Crawl in behind the engine and measure the shaft inside the boat... not likely to change from that.

Thank you all. I should have measured the shaft, aft of the transmission, like "Faster" suggested. However, I am now in Tennessee and the boat is in Georgia. Will have to purchase the anode prior to getting back to the boat.

Save yourself a headache, and hedge your bet.

Before you go to the boat, stop by the local West Marine and buy two of each of the following:
  • 3/4" Zinc Annode
  • 7/8" Zinc Annode
  • 1" Zinc Annode
  • 1-1/8" Zinc Annode

Install two of whichever size is correct (99% sure it will be 1"). When through at the boat, stop by West marine and return the Zincs that you did not use.
