Tried to have a part ordered (a fuel return for my Yanmar YSB8), but apparently it's been discontinued and it was suggested that I see if someone could forge one for me.
In a partial parts manual I have, it was called the following:
overflow tube #105582-59141 (YSB8 G-CY) Discontinued
(overflow tube #105584-59140 is another possibility part #, but I believe it's listed as being for the YSB12, … but maybe it would still work?) Discontinued
shows it is the fuel return line, should go back to the fuel tank or to a tee on the fuel supply line , which has very little pressure in it. could be replaced with a hose. why do you want to replace it? if it is leaking then it needs to be replaced or repaired, if it is not broken then don't fix it.
Yeah, it does. I guess the part I'm talking about is the fuel return pipe in that diagram.
I want to replace it because it slowly leaks diesel up near where it connects to the filter. I've tried a couple times to hit it with DB weld, but it's really tough to get at. Part of the crack in the pipe might be around the O-shaped round part where it fastens on, too.
take it off and have a shop re silver solder the joint. put on new copper gaskets on the banjo fitting. the original was steel tube silver soldered or brazed to the end fitting
I just went through this when i replaced my fuel lines on a (very similar) YSB last month. none of the flexible lines are available from yanmar any longer, so i took my old fuel lines to a hydraulic shop and they were able to cut the old banjo fittings off so that I could reuse them. I bought some USCG fuel hose and made them up with hose clamps, but the hydraulic shop would have built new lines for me if i'd prefered.
At least for my engine, if you look closely at the yanmar parts diagram, you can find the part number for the banjo fittings new from yanmar. my dealer advised me that they were available but the price was high enough that I reused my old ones. I don't have a YSM parts list but here's an example from the YSB8; the double numbers in the diagram are for the YSB8/12 respectively.
The return line complete is no 25, but it also shows the banjo fitting as no 21 & the return hose as no 23. The detail:
Google results for no 21, "yanmar 104264-59030" give a bunch of sellers. The fuel hose and clamps are available at any chandlery. Note the size and length marked on no 23 as well.
Hopefully you can find a YSM parts list with a similar breakdown... but I suspect a hydraulic or injector shop can set you right without ordering expensive yanmar parts. good luck!
A couple of barbed banjo fittings and fuel hose should be as good as new. Just run it to insure chafe is not an issue, or reinforce it with a heat shield sleeve, which is inexpensive.
The original metal part should be easily replicated by DIY. Might even be why they don't bother making it anymore. Get some copper brake line, which is easily molded with a bending spring. You can get a cheap tubing flare kit for 20-30 bucks. If the current banjo fittings don't take a flare, they may need to be replaced. Any mechanic should be able to replicate the old tube.
