I bought a Pearson 30 a few years ago. It has a flexible CDI roller furling system. Does this adversely affect the luff size of the jib? I'd like to buy a bigger head sail, I don't know if it makes sense to install a rew roller prior to making the jib purchase.

Having a furler reduces the usable luff length.

There generally isn't a big difference in functional luff length between brands of furlers.

The CDI furler does have other downsides compared to most furlers: sail changes are harder, luff tension is very hard to adjust, it doesn't have an independent tack swivel so it won't roll up the sail as tightly has a good Furlex, Harken, or Hood. The upsides are that it is less expensive and can't get halyard wrap.
